Pets of Harrison's - Get to know Porkchop and Bacon

Note: Pets of Harrison's is a limited edition run of t-shirts produced by Harrison's honoring our four-legged friends. Shirts will be available in Harrison's stores, and $1 from every sale will be donated to local humane societies.

When we decided to tell you about our new T-shirt series featuring the Pets of Harrison’s, we sent Emma in our Hudson store what we thought was a simple request. We wanted to introduce you to her, and to her pets.

“I don’t have many pictures with them, but I do of them,” she said. “I’ll try my best to get a picture with them. It’s just hard because they are really mean.”

Now, is that any way to talk about your pigs?

Emma’s pets are pot-bellied pigs Porkchop and Bacon, and they’re the first subjects on our new in-house T-shirts that will introduce you to a bunch of our best friends.

Porkchop and Bacon have been with Emma for quite a while.

“We’ve had them for two or three years now,” she said. “We got them when they were babies. They’re just a big ol’ mess.”

Emma emphasized that caring for pigs is no different than caring for other pets - and could be more challenging.

“You’ve got to have a place for them to run around,” she explained. “You’ve got to have a place for them to have their mud. You need lots of feed for them. And it’s weird, because you hear that they can eat a lot of stuff like apples and things like that, but they don’t like them. We’ve just always used feed.”

At the heart of things, a pet is a pet, Emma said. Porkchop and Bacon are no different.

“They like the sunlight,” she said. “They like the water. They like digging. And they’re very, very smart.”

Now, you’d have to ask Emma if you can meet the pair. But you don’t have to do anything special to make them famous. Just stop by your nearest Harrison’s, and grab a new T-shirt that’ll make you (and us) happier than a pig in slop.
