8 Days To Daytona: Get To Know The Harrison's/JRM No. 8 Team

Name: Eric Long

Position On Team: Second Engineer

Hometown: Cary, NC

What’s your primary role, and what do you enjoy about it?

“I do a lot with shocks, tires, and the database. Once a race starts, I’m working with the other race engineer and the crew chief on fuel mileage strategy as the race is playing out. We can get it pretty precise.”

If you had your choice of any track, oval or road course, asphalt or dirt, what would it be?

“I’m going asphalt ovals all day. That’s where I cut my teeth. That’s how I fell in love with the sport, that type of discipline. I did some dirt track oval racing growing up, but I’m an asphalt guy.”

Favorite car away from the track?

“Unlike a lot of these guys, I’m an import guy. I like a lot of the 90s-2000s import cars. A dream car that’s somewhat realistic? A Nissan GTR R35.”

Who picks the music in the garage? Is there anyone you absolutely don’t want picking the music?

“It probably rotates to whoever can get their Spotify pulled up the quickest. But we definitely want to leave Kevin (Walter) off the aux cord. Don’t give it to him.”

Hobbies?

“I like to ride mountain bikes, play guitar, work on my own car, that sort of thing.”

Favorite musical artist?

“I play a lot of Thomas Rhett stuff.”

Favorite movie:

“I like the original The Fast and the Furious”.

What’s the last thing you bought at Harrison’s?

“Hey Dudes. My wife lets me wear them to church, so they can double as casual or church shoes. Whether I’m at the beach or the mountains or wherever, they’re perfect. I never take them off. They feel like you’re walking on a cloud.”
